  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training

    The American Red Cross lifeguard course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to become a professional lifeguard through online training, classroom learning and in-water skills practice.

    Welcome to Master Swim, a US Master Swim program provides a resource for adults to receive organized workout plans from certified USMS coaches.

Pool Locations

The YMCA and City of Muncie have partnered to offer some alternative options for our aquatics programming. YMCA members will be permitted to access Tuhey Pool and will not be assessed the entry fee. For access, simply show your YMCA membership card.

Pool Safety Rules & Etiquette

By following these basic rules, everyone can enjoy a safer and more pleasant pool experience!

Lane/Competition Pool

    • No running: Always walk around the pool to prevent slips and falls.

    • No diving in shallow areas: Always check the depth of the pool before diving.

    • Know your limits: Don't swim beyond your ability. If you're a beginner, stay in the shallow end.

    • Emergency procedures: Be familiar with pool emergency exits and how to contact lifeguards or emergency services.

    • No horseplay: Avoid rough play that could result in injury to yourself or others.

    • No glass containers: Glass can break easily and create a dangerous hazard. Use plastic containers instead.

    • Use only Coast Guard approved flotation devices: Inflatables are not allowed.

    • Diving boards and starting blocks are only for competitions and lessons.

    • Stay off the wall in the program pool.

    • Shower before swimming: Always take a cleansing shower before entering the pool to help maintain water cleanliness.

    • No spitting or nose blowing in the pool: This is a hygiene concern and can spread germs.

    • No eating in the pool: Food can cause mess and attracts pets in the pool area.

    • Proper attire: Swimwear should be appropriate for the pool.

    • No street clothes.

    • No diapers in pool: Babies should wear swim diapers to prevent accidents in the pool.

    • Do not change on the pool deck: Please use changing rooms.

Heated Pool & Kids Area

    • Anyone who has or has had diarrhea in the past two weeks shall not use the pool.

    • Anyone who has an area of exposed subepidermal tissue, open blisters, cuts or etc, is advised not to use the pool.

    • All persons shall take a cleansing shower before returning to the pool enclosure.

    • Spitting, spouting of water, blowing the nose, and similar behavior in the pool is prohibited.

    • No running or rough play is permitted in the pool, on the runways, on diving boards, on floats, on platforms, in dressing rooms, or in showers.

    • Street clothes are not allowed in the pool.

    • All diaper aged children shall use plastic pants with tight fitting elastic at the legs and waist, or swim diapers.

    • Do not change diapers at poolside.

    • Respect other swimmers: Be mindful of others in the pool, and share space, especially in crowded areas.

    • Keep noise to a minimum: Excessive noise can disturb other swimmers or guests.

    • Be considerate of pool equipment: Don't use pool toys or equipment recklessly, and put them away when done. Kickboards, pull buoys, hand buoys and other such equipment are for lap swimmers, water fitness classes and swim lessons only.

    • Respect the lifeguard: The lifeguard has sole authority over the pools.

    • No public displays of attention (PDA).

  • Kids 14 & OVER may be in the aquatics area by themselves.

    Kids 8-13 must have a parent in the aquatics area.

    Kids 7 & UNDER must have a parent in the pool and within arms reach.

Sauna & Steam Room Etiquette

    • Ages 18 and over only.

    • This is a dry sauna. Do not pour water on the rocks as the steam can cause burns and dangerously raise the sauna temperature.

    • Members must shower before and after using the sauna and sit on a towel while in the sauna.

    • Approproate clothing must be worn at all times. This consists of a bathing suit or shorts and a shirt.

    • Gum, food, and drink are not allowed except water in a sealed, plastic container.

    • Use of essential oils or scented lotions can be toxic and are not permitted.

    • Do not exercise and stretch in the sauna and steam room.

    • Cell phone use is prohibited at all times.

    • Respect the privacy of others around you.

    • Newspapers, magazines, books, or other paper products are not permitted in the sauna and steam room.

    • Allow a 5-minute cool down period before entering and after exiting.

    • Avoid dehydration and drink plenty of water before entering and after using the sauna and steam room.
