In-person

  • Join us for in person group exercise classes! Members are no longer required appointments for Group Exercise classes or Water Fitness Classes.

    • If you need Childwatch for a class, it is available at our Northwest YMCA and Yorktown YMCA.

    • Parents and guardians no longer need to make an appointment for their youth. It will be by a first-come first-serve basis. Children may stay up to 2 hours.

Our Group Exercise Programs

  • Active Older Adult Classes

    Older adults will find these classes in a variety of categories such as cardio, strength, dance, and mind and body. Members of all ages are welcome to join these classes; if a member is recovering from an injury or surgery or just easing back in they are welcome to start here.

    SilverSneakers® – Geared towards older adults to focus on cardio strength, endurance, and flexibility. Slower paced workout that allows you to choose whether you complete the exercise standing or in a chair.

    Zumba Gold™ – Geared towards active older adults, this is an aerobic fitness class that involves dancing to the music and following the beat.

    SilverSneakers® Circuit –  A standing workout that uses a chair for support, and it combines cardio and strength for a double-duty session.

    SilverSneakers® Yoga – By engaging in this carefully designed seated yoga and chair yoga routine, participants can work towards maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle, while reducing stress and promoting a sense of inner peace

    AOA Intervals

  • Cycling

    Cycling classes use stationary cycling bikes. Cycling classes focus on a cardiovascular workout that will challenge you at different resistance and intensity levels as you cycle to upbeat music.

  • Dance

    Choreography & dance moves. Classes use modern music to get your heart pumping and inspire you through movement.

    Dance Fitness – Learning specific steps and choreography to music while increasing heart rate.

    Zumba™ – Aerobic fitness that involves dancing to the music and following the beat

    Zumba Toning™ – Includes light weights that act as resistance while participants move to the rhythm of the music

  • Strength

    Strength classes are focused on weight training. Strength classes will help you strengthen and tone with a variety of equipment. Some specified classes may combine other forms of training into your workout.

    Strength – Using weights to build muscle. Set up as a sets and reps type of workout.

    Cardio Strength – Purpose is to increase heart rate and breathing, while combining components of cardio and using weights.

    Barbells – Combining cardio activity with light to moderate weights. The weights are bars that have plates attached to the end.

    Intervals – High intensity interval training that is short bursts of workouts followed by a quick recovery period. Involves rounds or circuits.

    BODYPUMP® – Barbell based workout to improve muscular endurance for each muscle group.

    Core

  • Enhance Fitness

    Enhance Fitness is geared toward older adults of all fitness levels. If you have a chronic condition, such as arthritis, you may be able to gain more strength and independence. You will feel energized—physically, mentally and socially—and be surrounded by people who care about your success.

  • Les Mills at the YMCA of Muncie

    Using light to moderate weights with lots of repetition, BODYPUMP gives you a total body workout. Instructors will coach you through the scientifically-backed techniques pumping out encouragement, motivation and great music!

  • LIVESTRONG­® at the YMCA

    LIVESTRONG­® is a program for cancer patients and survivors. Program will include pre and post assessment. Participants will receive instructor-led cardio and strength training twice a week for 12 weeks. Equipment is provided!

  • Mind & Body

    Mind & Body classes are focused on flexibility, balance, stability, and core. These classes will utilize one’s own body weight and incorporate mindful exercise.

    Yoga – Lead through meditation, breathing, stretching, body posture, and relaxation.

    BODYBALANCE® – Type of Tai Chi, Pilates, and yoga to help overall body wellness.
